A pulse oximeter is a simple method for determine blood oxygen saturation (SpO2). Oxygen saturation indicates the oxygen level in peripheral blood hemoglobin, which helps assess the body’s oxygen consumption.

Description
Conditions where a pulse oximeter may be useful:
- Respiratory insufficiency or strong suspicion thereof.
- Patients receiving oxygen therapy;
- Certain sleep disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea
What the numbers mean: Peripheral blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) is considered normal in the range of 96–100%. Values below this level may indicate respiratory issues and require further investigation.
